CELEBRATIONS: Mid Mod Gingerbread Houses!

Gingerbread houses don't always have to look like
  Victorian or Edwardian painted ladies ... take a peek at some
Midcentury Modern versions of this traditional holiday treat!

Right: Frank Lloyd Wright in gingerbread. (You know what this iconic design is.)

Every year there's a gingerbread house
competition in Palm Springs, CA. Mid Mod architecture is well-represented, reflecting the aesthetic of the city.

There are DIY kits for crafting these witty structures;
the suggested ideas below are from a blog linked here.

  1. All I can say is, I have a hard enough time doing a gingerbread house from a kit, because I'm working with the "assistance" of an almost five-year old and an almost three-year old. These are cute, but the toddlers put a certain je ne sais quois to the work.

  2. Thanks so much for commenting here. I was inspired in part to write this posting by the photos you posted on Facebook of your adorable team of assistants! (Also by some fantastic gingerbread that our back fence neighbor gave us.) Any time you can work in the phrase "a certain je ne sais quois" on my comments page, please do! :-)
